Question: What is a solution? What are the three things needed for a shadow?
Answer: The dark spot formed by a translucent or an opaque when it blocks the light is called a shadow. The three things needed for a shadow are:
- A source of light.
- A translucent or an opaque object.
- A surface of which the shadow can be formed.
Question: Write down the features of a shadow.
Answer: The features of a shadow are:
- A shadow is formed on the opposite side of a light source. For e.g. if you are facing the light, your shadow will be formed behind your back. If your back is to the light your shadow in front of you.
- A shadow is block even when the object is of any other colour.
- A shadow shows only the shape or outline of an object.
- The size of a shadow depends on the distance between the object and source of light. It also depends on the distance between the object and the surface where it is formed. Shadows are long in morning and evening and shortest at noon.
