Question: What is the location of the Tundra region?

Answer: The Tundra region lies between 66 1/2° N and 90° N. It is known by many names, such as Frigid zone, Polar region, etc.

Question: Mention two features of the climate of Greenland.

Answer:

1. The climate of Greenland is extremely cold. Its temperature rarely rises above the freezing point.
2. Summer are cool and short. there is continuous daylight for weeks.
3. Winter are long, bitterly cold, dark and gloom.
4. Chilly winds blow at a high speed of above 150 km per hour.

Question: Define:

Answer:

1. Iceberg: Huge floating pieces of  ice that break off and slide into the sea are called icebergs.
2. Harpoon: The main occupations here are fishing, hunting and trading. Eskimos are good hunters who hunt with harpoons.
3. Sledge: Huskies are dogs like animals which are used of hunting and pulling carts with no wheels called sledges.
4. Igloo: Eskimo live in a small house made of ice called ‘Igloo’. It is a dome shaped home having a low, narrow opening. Animals skin and fur are used to cover the floor.

Question: Why is the vegetation less hare?

Answer: The temperature in Greenland remains near bellow freezing point. Trees cannot grow in this climate condition. So, Greenland is a barren land. Mosses and lichens are the natural vegetation of this region. Other plants of this region are wild grasses, shrubs and bushes, blueberries and cranberries. I which grows during short summers.

Question: How are animals important in such places?

Answer: The fur of the fox, and the polar bear is used for making fur coats. Huskies are dogs like animals which are used of hunting and pulling carts with no wheels called sledges.
