Question: In what way is a scavenger useful to the environment?

Answer: Scavenger is useful to the environment as it consumers the dead bodies of other animal and keeps the surroundings clean.

Question: What are the functions of food?

Answer: The functions of food are:

  1. It provides energy for various activities of the body.
  2. It helps the body grow and replace worn out cells.
  3. It protects the body from various diseases and keeps us fit.

Question: What is a food chain? Explain with an example?

Answer: A food chain shows how each living things gets its food in a particular environment.
Example: Grass → Grasshopper → Frog → Snake.

Question: What are parasites? Explain giving two example.

Answer: Parasites are organisms that do not digest nor make their own food instead they derive their nutrition from the digested food of the host. Eg:

  1. Roundworm and
  2. Hookworm live inside the bodies of animals and humans and eat the food after it has been digested by the host.

Question: A food chain consists of  several organisms. Suppose one of the organisms in the chain disappears. What effect can this have on the other organisms in the food chain?

Answer: The effects could be. (Plants → deers → lions)

For Eg- a hunter kills all the lions in a jungle. There is no one to eat deers. So deers increase in number. Deers eat and finish all the plants. Plants decrease in number and then they are finished. Deers have nothing to eat and then they have die. The food chain is over.
