Question: How did Chandragupta II strength his position through matrimonial alliances?
Answer: Chandragupta Vikramaditya expended his kingdom through matrimonial alliances and conquests. He married the Naga princess and married his daughter to the Vakataka ruler in the Deccan. He defeated the Saka rulers of Gujrat, Malwa and Saurashtra with the help of the Vakatakas and annexed their territories. The ports in western India thus come under his control.

Answer: The Chalukyas wanted complete control over the Deccan Plateau region. They were involved in frequent conflicts with the Pallavas. Pulakesin II defeated Mahenravarman I but was defeated in the next battle by Narasimhavarman and his capital Vatapi was also conquered. The struggle for power went on till the mid 8th century CE, when the Chalukyas were defeated by the Rashtrakutas and the Pallavas were defeated by the Cholas.
