Pandit Nehru had a great love for children. He wanted to be among them, talk to them and play with them. The children also loved and respected him and called him and called him ‘Chacha Nehru’.
The 14th November, 1975, Pandit Nehru’s 88th birthday anniversary, was celebrated by the people of Delhi in a befitting manner. Early in the morning people began gathering at Shanti Van to pay homage to the great leader. The visitors included the Cabinet Ministers and high officials. Wreaths were placed at the Samadhi. Prayers were held and hymns were chanted. Tributes were paid to Pandit Nehru for his sacrifices, achievements in International politics and peace effort.
School children organised cultural programmes to celebrate the day. They sang national songs and staged short dramas. The leaders who attended the celebrations, delivered speeches. They advised the students to be patriotic and follow in the footsteps of Pandit Nehru. They inspired them to deeds of bravery and sacrifices for the sake of their motherland.
