Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on 2nd October, 1904 in the town of Mughal Sarai in Uttar Pradesh. He had been interested in the freedom struggle since a very young age and went to the jail several times.
Shastriji took the post of the Railway Minister in 1962. He resigned later because of a railway accident fore which he took responsibility. He took over as the prime Minister of India after the death of Pandit. Jawahrlal Nehru in 1964.
I admire Lal Bahadur Shastri because he rose to such a high office in spite of his humble beginnings. He was a man of courage, total honesty and determination. He worked hard at whatever he did. Everyone respected him for his high principles. He gave the slogan ”Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” during the Indo-Pak war in 1965.
India lost this great son of 11th January, 1966. Shastriji has set a high example to follow. We must all try and fulfill his dream of making India a great country.
