Textile courses in Tamil Nadu: In an effort to bring scientific methods to the textile industry, the Tamil Nadu Government has chosen to offer a new technical textile course in polytechnic colleges and Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) throughout the State.
Textile courses in ITIs and polytechnics to be started in Tamil Nadu
The introduction of technical textile courses for diploma students in the state was motivated by the deficiency of up-to-date technical skills among textile sector employees. According to a senior DoTE official, the implementation of new diploma programs in textile technology for ITI and polytechnic students will improve young people’s abilities to produce high-quality textiles in the state.
He said that the syllabus for the technical textiles course would be developed by a curriculum group made up of representatives from the textile department, industry specialists, and clothing exporters.
“The duration of the course will be decided according to the government’s requirements,” he said adding, “The course will have subjects like basic information about textiles, understanding properties of useful fibre and yarn, 3D weaving, standard manufacturing process and effective usage of raw materials”.
Pointing out that technical textiles are used in different forms in various industries including transport, medicine, construction, and agriculture, the official said, “These topics will be briefly covered in the course.”
The official added that the technical textile training will assist students in finding employment right away. According to him, the subject will probably be offered in the upcoming academic year.
